Shubman Gill And Indian Team Fined And Punished By ICC After WTC Final.
Australia and India have been penalized for slow over rates during the ICC World Test Championship Final (WTC Final)at The Oval. In match, Australia emerged victorious, defeating India by 209 runs to claim the trophy. However, both teams faced fines for their respective slow over rates. Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, fell five overs short of the target when considering time allowances. Australia, on the other hand, was four overs behind.Consequently, India’s players will forfeit their match fees entirely, while Australia’s players will face an 80 percent deduction in their match fees. The penalties serve as a reminder to teams to maintain the required over rate during matches.
In addition to the over rate fines, Shubman Gill, young opener of Indian team, received an additional punishment for criticizing the decision regarding his dismissal on Day 4. Gill expressed his dissatisfaction by sharing a picture of Cameron Green, who caught him, along with relevant emojis. As a consequence, he incurred a further 15 percent deduction from his match fee, bringing his total fines to 115 percent of his match fees.
It is worth noting that during the incident in question, Richard Kettleborough, one of the on-field umpires, ruled in favor of Australia after Green claimed the catch. Due to their uncertainty, the on-field umpires referred the decision to the third official for a final verdict.
