Shubman Gill hospitalized in Chennai will also miss the 2nd World Cup game against Afghanistan too.

Star India opener Shubman Gill, who has been grappling with dengue for the past few days, has been admitted to a hospital in Chennai. Regrettably, he will not be able to join the Indian cricket team in Delhi for their second World Cup match against Afghanistan. Reports suggest that Gill’s platelet count has been persistently low, leading to medical advice against air travel.

This setback follows Gill’s absence from India’s inaugural World Cup 2023 match against Australia, which he missed due to his battle with dengue fever. His anticipated return to the team is expected for India’s third game. Currently, he is receiving medical attention at Chennai’s Kaveri hospital, where he is being supervised by Dr. Rizwan Khan, the BCCI doctor accompanying the team.

In a statement, the BCCI conveyed, “Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team.”
