Shubman Gill suffering from high fever (dengue), likely to miss World Cup Match against Australia.

The Indian cricket team faces a challenging situation as they prepare for their highly anticipated World Cup opener against Australia. Shubman Gill, key player in India’s ODI batting lineup, is currently dealing with a bout of high fever, raising doubts about his availability for the crucial opening match.

The possibility of Ishan Kishan stepping in to open alongside Rohit Sharma is being considered if Gill is unable to play. However, the final decision rests on Gill’s medical condition and the guidance of the team’s medical staff. According to a source within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gill’s health problems have been a concern since he arrived in Chennai.

“Shubman has been experiencing high fever since his arrival in Chennai. Medical tests are underway, and a decision on his participation in the opening game will be made after Friday’s tests. It’s essential not to make premature judgments. If it’s a typical viral fever, he might still play with the help of antibiotics, but this will ultimately be determined by the medical team,” stated a BCCI source.

There are also reports suggesting that Gill is undergoing tests for dengue, a potentially serious mosquito-borne illness. If these tests confirm dengue, the 24-year-old may not only miss the upcoming match but could also face an extended recovery period. Recovering from dengue can vary, typically taking 7-10 days.
