‘Still has a lot to prove’, Aakash Chopra doubtful for future of Shreyas Iyer in Test Side.
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer will be absent from the upcoming ODI and Test series against the Windies due to a series of injuries. The captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who missed the IPL 2023 due to a back injury, has not sufficiently recovered to take part in the longer format of the game.
Despite his consistent performances in ODIs, Aakash Chopra remains skeptical about Iyer’s suitability for Test matches. Chopra believes that Iyer struggles against both the moving ball and the short ball, aspects of his game that he needs to address in order to secure his position in the Test team.
Aakash Chopra on his YT channel said “Shreyas Iyer – good player, scored a century on debut against New Zealand and scored runs in the second innings as well. But Shreyas Iyer, the Test batter, still has a lot to prove in my opinion. He played very well in Bangladesh also. He plays spin extremely well, there is no doubt about that. However, there are two things that might define his career – his game against the short ball and second against the moving ball – when the ball is pitched up and it swings, and the other is the bouncer,”
