Suryakumar Yadav in doubt for first two games of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024.
Flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav may miss the initial matches of Mumbai Indians in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to doubts surrounding his fitness. The 33-year-old is presently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru following a sports hernia surgery he underwent in January. Although his recovery progress is reportedly on track, BCCI officials are prioritizing his long-term fitness for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence on June 1.
Mumbai Indians are set to commence their campaign on March 24 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, followed by a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27. It is anticipated that Suryakumar will join the five-time champions after these initial fixtures. A source close to BCCI has verified this information, affirming that while Suryakumar’s rehabilitation is progressing well, the medical team will not rush his return, hence ruling him out for the initial matches.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have already initiated their pre-season preparations, with skipper Hardik Pandya rejoining the team on March 11. Head coach Mark Boucher and his support staff have also joined, as evidenced by their participation in a Puja ceremony to kick off the season
