India has suffered a significant setback as star batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been sidelined due to a Grade-II ankle tear. The 33-year-old is expected to be out of action for seven weeks, with a tentative return date set for February 2024. The injury occurred during the third T20I against South Africa when Yadav twisted his ankle while fielding, prompting scans that revealed the extent of the damage.

Regrettably, Yadav’s absence means he won’t be available for the Men in Blue during their three-T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled to commence on January 11. Following a recovery period, the talented batsman will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) with the aim of making a comeback to the side.A BCCI source stated, “He will take some time to recover. He will have to report to the National Cricket Academy later to do his rehabilitation. He is surely going to miss the Afghanistan series,” as reported by the Indian Express.Compounding the team’s challenges, Suryakumar Yadav had taken on the captaincy in T20Is due to the absence of Hardik Pandya, who is also sidelined due to injury. With both key players unavailable, the BCCI is now tasked with finding a replacement skipper to lead India against Afghanistan.
