“Thanks for the help” – Daryl Mitchell thanks Ishan Kishan for his gesture in the World Cup semi final by Instagram story.
New Zealand cricketer Daryl Mitchell expressed his gratitude towards India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan through an Instagram story, acknowledging Kishan’s sportsmanship during the 2023 World Cup semifinal on Friday, November 17. In the game held in Mumbai, Kishan assisted Mitchell in stretching after he experienced a cramp in his right leg.
Mitchell delivered an outstanding performance in the semifinal, scoring 134 runs off 119 balls against the Men in Blue. His innings included seven sixes and nine boundaries. The 32-year-old cricketer played a pivotal role in a crucial 181-run partnership with New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who scored 69 off 73 balls for the third wicket. Despite Mitchell’s impressive century, the Blackcaps lost the match by 70 runs.
Taking to Instagram, Mitchell tagged Ishan Kishan and accompanied his post with a salute emoji, expressing his appreciation with the words, “Thanks for the help.”
Notably, this marked Mitchell’s second century in the 2023 World Cup, following his earlier knock of 130 off 127 balls against India in the league-stage game in Dharamsala. Despite his remarkable innings, the Kiwis faced defeat in that match, losing by four wickets.
Unfortunately, with the semifinal loss, New Zealand’s aspirations of securing their first-ever ODI World Cup trophy were dashed. Despite reaching the finals in the 2015 and 2019 editions, the Blackcaps fell short in their quest for championship glory in the 2023 World Cup.
