“The moment he stepped out, he knew he had to play a different kind of an innings” Anil Kumble appreciates captain Rohit Sharma for his knock.

The first Test of the ongoing multi-format series between the West Indies and India commenced on a highly positive note for the Indian team. Having bowled out the West Indies for a mere 150 runs in their first innings, the Indian side displayed exceptional batting prowess.

The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma showcased their brilliance by scoring centuries, causing significant damage to the Windies’ bowling attack. Rohit’s century was particularly noteworthy, as it had been a long-awaited achievement for the Indian skipper, who had been experiencing a lean patch.

Throughout the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and even in the final of the World Test Championship, Rohit had struggled to make a substantial impact. However, against the West Indies, the 36-year-old took center stage and scored an impressive 103 runs off 221 deliveries, providing his team with a blazing start.

Anil Kumble, former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator, expressed his admiration for Rohit’s magnificent innings. Despite the pitch being slow, Kumble highlighted Rohit’s patience and temperament as he successfully completed his century.

“You saw from Ball 1, the moment he stepped out, he knew he had to play a different kind of an innings, it was not the kind of pitch where the ball was coming onto the bat. Rohit likes the pace, even when the fast bowlers bowled those short deliveries, it was not coming on. He was happy to stay restrained, and then, yes, on a couple of occasions, he took on the bowlers and hit them over the top.”
