“There is inconsistency when it comes to Shubman Gill’s T20I numbers” – Aakash Chopra talks on openers poor batting form.
Aakash Chopra has raised concerns about Shubman Gill’s performance in T20 International cricket, noting that his statistics in this format are troubling. Despite an impressive 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Gujarat Titans, where he secured the Orange Cap by scoring 890 runs at an average of 60, Gill’s T20I career has been inconsistent.
Gill, who made his T20I debut prior to the IPL season, showcased his talent by achieving his maiden T20I century against New Zealand. Additionally, he played a crucial role in securing a victory for the team with a match-winning 77 in the fourth T20I against the West Indies in July. However, his performances in other T20I matches have fallen short of expectations.
In the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa, Gill faced a dip in form, recording scores of 0 and 8. Furthermore, he faced dismissals through leg before wicket (LBW) in both matches.
Chopra said “There is inconsistency when it comes to Shubman Gill’s T20I numbers. There are 1-2 big knocks, but around it there is nothing but low scores. Also, against left-arm spin, it seems like there is an issue for him. To my understanding, he is trapped by the left-arm spinners inside the powerplay.”
