“There’s a bigger goal in mind, so focusing on that will be crucial for us”,says Rohit Sharma downplays on being No.1 side.
Team India captain Rohit Sharma has downplayed the significance of the side’s No. 1 ranking heading into the ODI World Cup, emphasizing that their focus lies on more substantial matters. Nevertheless, he openly acknowledged that being ranked as No. 1 is indeed a positive and gratifying sentiment.
The path to securing the top spot in ODIs commenced with India’s impressive five-wicket victory over Australia in the initial ODI held in Mohali. This victory elevated them to the summit of the rankings in the ODI format, a complement to their already held No. 1 positions in Test and T20I cricket. As a result of their triumphant performance in Indore, the Men in Blue have firmly established themselves as the leading team in the 50-over format as they gear up for the forthcoming ODI World Cup.
During a press conference held before the third ODI in Rajkot, Rohit Sharma was inquired about his perspective on India’s status as the top-ranked team in international cricket
Rohit Sharma said “As a skipper, you would not look into all those things like a whitewash is on the cards. You would want to play good cricket and you want to achieve certain things on the field. The last two games, I wasn’t part of it, but I saw a lot of it and I thought we played really good cricket and achieved a lot.”
“We chased in one game, we batted first in the other game; got a decent amount of runs. We bowled pretty well in both games. We did pretty much everything right in these two games. There’s a bigger goal in mind, so focusing on that will be crucial for us,” he added.
