“”They missed Virat Kohli’s captaincy” – Michael Vaughan unimpressed by Rohit Sharma’s leadership in Hyderabad Test vs England.
Michael Vaughan expressed his viewpoint that India felt the absence of Virat Kohli’s leadership abilities during the Test series opener against England in Hyderabad, which ended in a 28-run loss for the hosts. Despite initially being in a favorable position after the first two innings, India couldn’t maintain their momentum to clinch the victory. Vaughan suggested that the outcome might have been different had Kohli been leading the team.
Vaughan commented on the performance of stand-in captain Rohit Sharma, indicating that it fell short of expectations during the Hyderabad Test. He shared his thoughts on the YouTube channel ‘Club Prairie Fire.’
Vaughan said “They missed Virat Kohli’s captaincy massively in Test cricket. Under Virat’s captaincy that week, India wouldn’t have lost the game. Rohit is a legend and a great player. But I felt he just switched off completely.”
Although Virat Kohli was originally part of India’s squad for the first two Tests against England, he withdrew from participation citing personal reasons. Consequently, Rohit Sharma led the team in his absence. However, the Indian team couldn’t successfully chase down the target of 231 runs in the fourth innings, ultimately getting bowled out for 202 on Day 4. England’s debutant left-arm spinner Tom Hartley was instrumental in this outcome, claiming a seven-wicket haul in the innings.
