“They will not let you breathe if they get a spin-friendly pitch” – Aakash Chopra on Afghanistan ahead of Asia Cup 2023.

Aakash Chopra has identified Afghanistan’s formidable spin-bowling lineup as their primary asset as they enter the Asia Cup 2023. Scheduled to take place between August 30 and September 17 across Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the tournament will witness Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh in Group B. Kicking off their journey in the competition, Afghanistan is set to face Shakib Al Hasan’s squad on Sunday, September 3rd, in Lahore.

Through a video posted on his YouTube channel, Chopra highlighted the potential of Afghanistan’s spin-bowling unit, suggesting that their effectiveness could be maximized on suitable pitches.

Aakash Chopra said “Their bowling is always good. If they get a slightly spin-friendly wicket, they keep you in check and open you up as well. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan will be all over you like a rash.”

“If the pitch is assisting spin even more, you might also see Noor Ahmad in the team. If they play Noor Ahmad, then 10 overs each for him, Rashid, Nabi and Mujeeb – they will not let you breathe if they get a spin-friendly pitch.”
