“This credit goes to the CSK team and Mahi bhai”: Shivam Dube on getting success in India Vs Afghanistan T20Is.
All-rounder Shivam Dube has displayed exceptional batting prowess in the recent T20Is against Afghanistan. Notably, the 30-year-old crafted an unbeaten 60 runs from 40 deliveries in Mohali and followed it up with a remarkable 63 not out off 32 deliveries in Indore, contributing significantly to India’s victories. Cricket experts have applauded his stellar performances, and Dube attributes his success to his IPL franchise, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and captain MS Dhoni.
Having been signed by CSK in 2022, Dube made a significant impact, scoring 418 runs in 16 IPL matches in 2023 and playing a crucial role in CSK’s title triumph. This success translated into a return to the Indian team, where he has continued to excel. Dube expressed gratitude to CSK for instilling confidence in him and believing in his abilities, allowing him to play his natural game in the T20 format.
Dube said โThis credit goes to the CSK team and Mahi bhai. I always had the game, but what CSK do is take out that game from a player. So, they have given me that confidence. They told me that I could score runs in IPL and that they believed in me. The likes of Hussey and Fleming said they had faith in me and that I could do what they wanted.”
โWhen I was with CSK, he (MS Dhoni) told me that I had the capability to bat well. But he told me to be smart. So, I focussed on my limitations and what I could do well,โ the all rounder added.
It’s worth noting that Dube is in direct competition with Hardik Pandya for a spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad, scheduled to commence on June 1. The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League holds significant importance for Dube, as it could play a decisive role in determining his international future.
