“To see such an unselfish guy like him is rare”: Ravi Ashwin calls Ishan Kishan ‘extraordinary team man’.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently shared a heartwarming incident involving wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan during the team’s tour of the Caribbean, highlighting his exceptional character. The all-format tour, which took place in July and August, was particularly significant for Ishan Kishan as it marked several milestones in his career. During this tour, Ishan was handed his maiden Test cap, and he went on to display outstanding performance by scoring three consecutive fifties in the ODI series, amassing a total of 184 runs. His remarkable performance earned him the title of Player of the Series in Team India’s 2-1 triumph.

Known for his jovial and easygoing personality, Ishan Kishan has been a well-loved figure since his U19 days and throughout his journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Remarkably, he has maintained this same positive attitude even after transitioning to international cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin, in particular, recalled an incident that showcased Ishan Kishan’s generosity and team spirit. On his birthday, Ishan Kishan surprised everyone by taking the initiative to pay the bill for the entire group at a restaurant.

Ravi Ashwin said “We were having dinner in a restaurant in Trinidad and Tobago, and then he came in wearing shorts, colorful shirt and a gold chain. It was his birthday and we wished him.”

“There were about five tables, all with the Indian team and support staff and when we were leaving to pay the bill, they informed us that Ishan Kishan has already paid the bill for all of them. So, in this day and age, to see such an unselfish guy like him is rare.”

He moreover added “One more thing that does not meet with the eye is that Ishan Kishan is an extraordinary team man. He will mix positive vibes with the water he is giving to the players in the XI.”
