“Truth is the main guys do not want to go early”, Sunil Gavaskar bashes Rohit Sharma and Indian Team Players over ‘Lack of Preparation’ statement.
Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary cricketer from India, has strongly criticized the senior players of the Indian cricket team for attributing their loss in the 2023 World Test Championship final to a lack of preparation. Notably, captain Rohit Sharma had mentioned that a preparation period of 20-25 days would have been ideal for such a significant match. The Indian team had to participate in the WTC final just a week after the two-month-long IPL season in 2023.
In contrast, before the WTC final in 2021, the Indian team arrived in England 15 days before the final to acclimatize and prepare. In response to Rohit’s statements, Sunil Gavaskar questioned the type of preparation the Indian captain was referring to, as the team had only arrived in the West Indies eight days ahead of the tour.
Sunil Gavaskar said โWhat kind of preparation are we talking about? Now they have gone to the West Indies. You have the example of the World Test Championship before you. Are you playing any matches? So, what is this talk about 20-25 days?”
Additionally, Gavaskar expressed his belief that the senior players are reluctant to arrive early for tours because they do not fear losing their places in the team saying โThe truth is the main guys do not want to go early because they know that come what may, they will get selected. When you go early, they will talk about the workload. You call yourself the fittest team in the world or fitter than the earlier generations, then how do you break down so soon? How do you have a workload issue when you play a 20-overs game?”ย
