Uganda qualifies for T20 World Cup 2024, Zimbabwe fails.

Uganda secured a historic qualification to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Rwanda by nine wickets on Thursday, November 30, in their final round fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup African Regional Qualifier in Windhoek, Namibia. Led by Captain Brian Masaba, Uganda finished second on the seven-team table, earning their first-ever participation in a senior international men’s ICC tournament. Masaba’s pivotal performance included two crucial wickets, contributing to Rwanda being bundled out for 65. In response, Uganda comfortably chased the target in 8.1 overs, with notable contributions from Simon Ssesazi, Ronak Patel, and Roger Mukasa.

With this triumph, Uganda joins Namibia in qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2024, where the West Indies and the USA earned direct qualification as hosts. The top eight teams from the previous edition in Australia 2022, along with Afghanistan and Bangladesh, also secured direct qualification. The remaining eight teams, including Ireland, Scotland, Nepal, Oman, PNG, and Canada, earned their spots through regional qualification events played in Asia, Africa, the Americas, East Asia Pacific, and Europe

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on June 3, with 20 participating teams divided into five groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage, followed by semi-finals and a final to determine the ultimate winner.
