“Valuable lessons for many cricketers from this tour” : R Ashwin on Indian team losing T20I series ahead of 2024 T20 World Cup.

Ravichandran Ashwin recently discussed the significance of India’s recent tour of the West Indies, despite their 2-3 loss in the five-match T20I series. The seasoned spinner emphasized that the exposure gained from playing in the United States and the West Indies will prove valuable for the players in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Ashwin also highlighted the importance of the wind factor in the Caribbean, which could pose a substantial challenge for visiting team.

Ashwin on his YouTube channel said “(WI conditions) Even during the commentary, many didn’t give this information. On West Indian grounds, the air blows from different directions. So, there is this ‘with the wind’ and ‘against the wind’ concept.”

He added “Even if you understand the concept, the opponent team will be ahead by 2-3 balls. And in T20Is, these 2-3 balls will be a massive advantage. So, there will be valuable lessons for many cricketers from this tour.”

In the series, led by Rovman Powell, West Indies capitalized on their home advantage to clinch a 3-2 victory over the top-ranked T20I team. While trailing 0-2, Hardik Pandya and his team managed to level the series, but ultimately faced an eight-wicket defeat in the final match, with Brandon King’s 85(55) and Romario Shepherd’s impressive performance (4/31).
