Viacom18 (JioCinema) gets the rights for the BCCI International Matches and Domestic Matches for September 2023 – March 2028.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently finalized the sale of television and live streaming rights for India’s home cricket matches over the next five years to Viacom18, a prominent media conglomerate. This agreement will lead to the broadcasting of the Indian cricket team’s matches on Sports18 TV channels and the JioCinema online streaming platform, extending until the culmination of the 2027 home season.
The acquisition of these rights transpired after a competitive three-way bidding encounter, featuring Viacom18, Disney, Star, and Sony Pictures Sports Network, vying for the privilege to broadcast and live-stream India’s home matches. The bidding event unfolded on Thursday, August 31, ultimately resulting in Viacom18 securing these rights by committing a staggering sum of ₹67.8 crore per match. The value assigned by Viacom18 for a single match overshadows the preceding cycle’s rate of ₹60 crore per match, which was paid by Star Sports.
Over the course of five years, Viacom18 will disburse a total of ₹5966.4 crore to the BCCI for the transmission of these matches through their platforms. The comprehensive five-year contract encompasses a noteworthy total of 88 matches involving the Indian men’s cricket team. Furthermore, the package also encompasses the home fixtures of the Indian women’s cricket team. The inaugural series that will fall under the purview of this agreement is the imminent India vs Australia men’s series, which Viacom18 is poised to telecast and stream as part of this groundbreaking deal.
