“Virat deserves a trophy” – Suresh Raina on RCB’s not winning IPL ahead of 2024 season.
Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer Suresh Raina expressed his belief that Virat Kohli should have clinched an IPL trophy considering his remarkable achievements in international cricket and the IPL.
With the commencement of the 2024 IPL season approaching in less than a month, Kohli, despite his illustrious career, is yet to secure an IPL title after 16 seasons with the RCB franchise.
Last season, RCB finished sixth in the standings and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2019, despite Kohli’s exceptional batting performances. Kohli ended as the fourth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 639 runs at an impressive average of 53.25 and a strike rate of 139.82.
In an interview with the Times of India, Raina expressed empathy for Kohli and emphasized that the esteemed cricketer deserved to eventually triumph.
Raina said “Virat deserves a trophy. He has done so well for the Indian team and RCB for years. He has had a lot of success at RCB and his fans deserve to hold a trophy for him.”
Kohli holds the record for the highest run tally in IPL history, amassing 7,263 runs in 237 matches at an average exceeding 37. He boasts seven centuries and 50 half-centuries in his IPL career. Notably, Kohli achieved the single-season record for the most runs in 2016, accumulating 973 runs. RCB secured IPL qualification three times in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
