Jonny Bairstow, who endured a challenging Test series against India, found himself embroiled in two sledging incidents during the fifth and final Test. The first altercation occurred with Shubman Gill during England’s second innings, while the second involved Indian fans during the host nation’s first innings.
Despite England’s hopes of victory in Dharamsala, India’s formidable batting display, led by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s centuries, along with contributions from Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal, propelled India to a commanding total of 477 runs. With a substantial lead of 259, India then dismissed the English team for 195 runs, securing a convincing victory by an innings and 64 runs, with R Ashwin claiming five wickets.
As England suffered a resounding defeat, the fans at the HPCA stadium directed chants towards Bairstow, chanting, “Bazball gets battered everywhere they go.” Despite the taunts, Bairstow, who was also marking his 100th Test appearance, responded with a smile.
