Mumbai clinched their 42nd Ranji Trophy title with a convincing victory over two-time champions Vidarbha, triumphing by a margin of 169 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, March 14. This win also marked the end of Mumbai’s eight-year-long drought in the Ranji Trophy, a significant achievement in the history of the tournament.

No other team has amassed more than eight trophies, with Karnataka and Delhi trailing behind with eight and seven titles respectively in this prestigious competition.

In pursuit of a daunting target of 538 runs, Vidarbha displayed resilience but ultimately fell short, being dismissed for 368. Captain Akshay Wadkar led from the front with a gritty knock of 102 runs off 199 deliveries, including one six and nine boundaries. Despite notable contributions from Karun Nair (74 off 220 balls) and Harsh Dubey (65 off 128 balls), Vidarbha couldn’t cross the finish line.

Mumbai’s bowling unit delivered a clinical performance, with Tanush Kotian leading the charge with four wickets to his name. Tushar Deshpande and Musheer Khan provided valuable support, claiming two wickets each to dismantle the Vidarbha batting lineup.
