(Watch) Pat Cummins erupts with laughter when ask upon England losses in the ongoing World Cup 2023.

Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, had an interesting response during a recent pre-match press conference when an Australian journalist inquired about his sentiments regarding England’s struggles in the ongoing ODI World Cup. England has faced a challenging tournament, losing four of their five matches, and their prospects of defending their title appear bleak with slim chances of reaching the semifinals.

Cummins, who had previously referred to the New Zealand team members as his ‘good mates’ in anticipation of Australia’s match against the Kiwis, was asked if he felt heartbroken witnessing England’s difficulties. The question prompted a slight chuckle from the Australian skipper, but he didn’t delve into a detailed response.

The highly-anticipated clash between Australia and England is scheduled for Saturday, November 4, in Ahmedabad. Both teams have had contrasting journeys in the World Cup. Australia initially faced setbacks with two consecutive losses but made a resounding comeback by winning three successive matches, currently standing fourth on the points table.

In contrast, England’s World Cup campaign started with a loss to New Zealand, followed by a victory over Bangladesh. However, they have struggled to secure another win, suffering three consecutive losses.

In their most recent match against Sri Lanka, England opted to bat and were dismissed for just 156 runs. Sri Lanka comfortably chased down the target within 26 overs, marking England’s fifth consecutive ODI World Cup defeat to Sri Lanka.

To secure a spot in the semifinals, England will need to win their remaining four matches and rely on favorable results from other games. Their next challenge is against hosts India in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.
