“We’ve seen Jimmy Anderson do that sort of stuff” – Josh Hazlewood on Australia’s quadro focusing on Test cricket over other formats.
Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has emphasized the importance of Test cricket for the bowling quartet, comprising himself, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Lyon. Drawing inspiration from England’s James Anderson, who exclusively focuses on red-ball cricket at the age of 41, Hazlewood expressed his desire for the quartet to prioritize the longer format.
Currently, one wicket away from joining his counterparts with 250 Test wickets, Hazlewood envisions a remarkable achievement if each member of the quartet surpasses the 300-wicket milestone
In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Hazlewood expressed his hope for the four bowlers to continue their Test careers for at least another two years, if not more.
Hazlewood said “We’ve seen Jimmy Anderson do that sort of stuff. Starcy bowls a little bit differently to Patty and me. He’s all guns blazing most of the time, but if we could all get 300 [wickets], that’d be unreal. It’d be great if we could play forever, but if we could play a couple more years … what we know about training and workload management now we might be able to hand on longer. I just really enjoy the format and I know the other boys do as well. You try to hang onto Test cricket as long as possible.”
