“When I was dropped from the Indian team, I didn’t get to know the reason”, Prithiv Shaw opens up on his rough phase.
Young Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw is currently facing a challenging phase in his career. Despite showcasing his immense potential from a young age, including leading the Under-19 World Cup team to victory and making a remarkable Test debut with a century, Shaw’s recent performance has been below par.
In the recent Duleep Trophy final held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the 23-year-old played for the West Zone team against the South Zone. While he managed to score a half-century in the first innings, Shaw struggled to make a significant impact in the final innings. Unfortunately, his team, captained by Priyank Panchal, suffered a 75-run defeat against the South Zone.
During an interview with Cricbuzz, Shaw was questioned about his perspective on being dropped from the Indian team. In response, the young batter expressed his disappointment at not being informed about the reasons behind his exclusion from the national squad. Shaw further revealed that he had undergone several tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he had cleared most of them. However, he was disheartened to learn that he was not selected for the West Indies tour.
“When I was dropped [from the Indian team], I didn’t get to know the reason. Someone was saying it could be fitness. But of course I came here [to Bengaluru] and cleared all the tests at the NCA, again scored runs and again came back to the T20 team. But again didn’t get a chance in the West Indies. I’m disappointed but you just have to move forward. I can’t do anything, I can’t fight with anyone. As a person, I just like to be in my own zone.”
“People say a lot of things about me. But those who know me, know how I am. I don’t have friends, I don’t like to make friends. This is what’s happening with this generation. You can’t share your thoughts with anyone else. If you ask me personally, it’s very scary. Darr lagta hai aajkal to share my thoughts. Agle din social media mein aa jaata hai (I’m scared to share my thoughts. Somehow all of it comes up on social media). I’ve very less friends, only a couple of friends, and even with them I don’t share everything, only a few things.”
