“When you pick youngsters then why would you make Rahane the vice-captain?” Saba Karim raises questions.
Ajinkya Rahane, was the former vice captain but had faced a period of poor form, which led to his exclusion from India’s Test squad. However, during his comeback in the World Test Championship final against Australia, the 35-year-old displayed exceptional skills, not only securing his position in the playing XI but also regaining the role of India’s Test vice-captain for the West Indies tour.
Former BCCI chief selector Saba Karim recently expressed his thoughts on the reappointment of Ajinkya Rahane as Test vice-captain, stating that he personally believed Ravindra Jadeja or Shubman Gill would have been more suitable candidates.
Karim talked over Rahane’s reappointment as vice captain saying “I don’t know why people don’t even talk about Ravindra Jadeja. He’s a regular in all formats for the Indian side and he has had major contributions to India’s Test success also. So how come he’s never spoken about as a leader? He’s irreplaceable in all three formats for the national side and he’s equally capable of leading the national side. Or if not him then maybe Shubman Gill if the Indian selectors thought that he is the future. I am just saying, there are some candidates,”.
