“Will solve our middle-order problem” :- Sanjay Manjrekar on Shreyas Iyer’s return in Asia Cup.

Sanjay Manjrekar has expressed his optimism about Shreyas Iyer’s return to the Indian cricket team, viewing it as a significant boost. Manjrekar believes that Iyer’s inclusion could effectively address India’s middle-order challenges in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. He highlighted Iyer’s impressive fitness level, noting his progress during the team’s training camp in Alur, Bengaluru, and indicating that he is close to being match-ready. Speaking on Star Sports, Manjrekar emphasized the positive impact of Iyer’s comeback.

Manjrekar said “One big positive for Team India is that Shreyas Iyer is looking good. Running is involved in the net practice that has been going on in the camp. He was running well, which will solve our middle-order problem, which has been an ever-existing one. Iyer is looking net fit and is very close to being match fit.”

Furthermore, Manjrekar pointed out that India faced limited choices for the crucial No. 4 batting position during the 2019 World Cup. In contrast, he observed that the current scenario offers the Men in Blue a wealth of exciting alternatives. This broader pool of talent for the middle-order positions contributes to the team’s improved prospects for the upcoming tournament.

Adding more he said “India didn’t have enough options for the No. 4 spot during the last World Cup. We tried the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant in that position. However, this time, it is different. We have many exciting options for the No. 4 position, with Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Tilak Varma being the potential candidates.”
