‘Would be unfair to compare him to Sachin and Virat so early’ :- Coach Gary Kirsten

Shubman Gill, the talented opener for Team India, delivered an exceptional performance in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL 2023). Representing the Gujarat Titans, Gill showcased his remarkable batting skills, accumulating a total of 890 runs throughout the season. His stellar performance included three magnificent centuries, making a significant impact during the playoffs. Gill’s outstanding display with the bat earned him the prestigious Orange Cap, awarded to the highest run-scorer of the tournament.

Gary Kirsten, the former coach of the Indian cricket team and currently associated with the Gujarat Titans, expressed his admiration for Gill’s abilities. Having worked closely with legendary batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, Kirsten believes that it would be unjust to directly compare Gill with these greats.

“Shubman Gill is a young player who has incredible skill and determination to be one of the best players in the world. It would be unfair to compare him to Sachin and Virat so early in his journey. I believe he has the game to successfully play across all three formats for India. You don’t often see that, these days, particularly as T20 cricket is developing and progressing so fast,”
