2nd phase of IPL will take place in India only: IPL Chairman clears speculations of shifting league due to elections.
Speculations emerged regarding the potential relocation of the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the format of IPL 2024, which will unfold in two phases. Accompanying this announcement were the fixtures for the first phase, scheduled to kick off on March 22 and culminate on April 7, featuring 21 matches across 11 cities.
Addressing the swirling rumors, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal unequivocally dismissed the notion of relocating the second phase to Dubai. However, amidst India’s impending significant democratic event, concerns regarding security arrangements for both the IPL and the concurrent national event have surfaced. Dhumal underscored the importance of maintaining the current arrangement and reassured stakeholders that the lucrative league would indeed transpire within India’s borders.
Dhumal said “We are working closely with the government agencies, as soon as the dates of general elections are announced, we will figure out the further plan & hopefully the 2nd phase of IPL will take place in India only, it’s not going anywhere else.”
