Angelo Mathews shares video evidence calling his “time-out” unfair.

Angelo Mathews, the seasoned Sri Lankan all-rounder, found himself making an unusual entry into the record books as the first player ever to be dismissed through a timed-out in international cricket. This peculiar incident unfolded during Sri Lanka’s clash with Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on November 6.

The remarkable incident transpired as Mathews took to the crease following the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama. In a video shared by Mathews, it was evident that he arrived at the crease approximately one minute and fifty seconds after the wicket had fallen. However, a mere five seconds into his appearance at the crease, his helmet’s strap came loose, necessitating a replacement.

During this brief interlude, Mathews engaged in a discussion with Bangladesh’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib, however, remained steadfast in his appeal for the timed out dismissal, which subsequently led the umpire to adhere to the rules and uphold the decision.

Angelo Mathews took to the X (Twitter) platform and shared a short video clip of the incident. The clip not only showcases Mathews’ delayed arrival but also captures Shakib advancing toward the umpire to make the appeal, just before the two-minute deadline was set to expire.
