Team India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel rescued his team from a precarious situation in the first innings of the fourth Test against England.
Although he fell short of his maiden Test century, Jurel played a crucial knock of 90 runs from 149 balls, including six fours and four sixes. His innings helped India post 307 runs on the board in response to England’s total of 353.
With England holding a lead of 46 runs, the situation could prove crucial given the nature of the pitch.
On day 2, India found themselves at 219/7 with Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav at the crease. The pair continued to defy the English bowlers on Day 3, with Kuldeep contributing 28 runs and sharing a 76-run partnership with Jurel. Subsequently, Jurel built a 40-run partnership with Akash Deep, who scored nine runs.
England’s Shoaib Bashir was the most successful bowler, claiming five wickets in 44 overs. Tom Hartley took three wickets, while James Anderson dismissed two batsmen.
Earlier in the match, Joe Root’s century propelled the Ben Stokes-led England team to a total of 353 runs.
